The Cardiac Café kicked off the 15th Annual CHFR Symposium on Heart Failure. We were pleased to see that many young researchers gathered at the event on the evening of Wednesday September 20th, 2017.
Professor Calum MacRae was the first speaker at The Cardiac Café with his talk Future of cardiac research – opportunities for young researchers. Professor MacRae was recently awarded 75 million US dollars to his research project One Brave Idea, aiming to find a way to detect coronary heart disease decades before symptoms arise.
He was followed by Norwegian Professor and profiled science communicator Jørn Hurum. In 2009, Professor Hurum caught the world’s attention with a 47-million-year-old primate skeleton named after his own daughter, saying it could be “The Link”. In his talk Monsters, monkeys and mass media – my story, Hurum gave an entertaining insight into how researchers can make the public interested in their science.
