Cardiac researchers and clinical cardiologists need to know key concepts and terms for measuring and describing the function of the heart. This three-day course will provide a comprehensive review of the following topics:

  • Myocardial deformation
  • Tau – the time constant of exponential pressure decay
  • End diastolic pressure volume relation
  • Contractility & end systolic pressure volume relation
  • Preload
  • Afterload
  • Suction and restoring forces
  • Frank-Starling effect
  • Myocardial and ventricular efficiency

The course curriculum will be covered in lectures and practical training by analyzing and performing calculations on previously recorded measurements. The course is aimed at clinical and translational researchers with an interest in cardiac mechanics and hemodynamic theory.

The course takes place at Oslo University Hospital Rikshospitalet on Tuesday – Thursday, 23rd-25th April.

How to get there: Ground floor entrance to the A3-builiding is underneath the sky-walk from the main Rikshospitalet building to the A-building crossing over the tram tracks.
