Methods in Cardiac Research 2016 presented PhD students to commonly used methods in cardiac research through lectures and practical demonstrations.

Main topics of the course:

• Methods in molecular biology, such as Northern blotting, real-time qPCR, immunolocalisation, microarray, Western blotting and ELISA.
• Methods in cellular biology, such as cell isolation and cell culturing, patch-clamp, calcium imaging, as well as quantification of receptors and intracellular signaling pathways.
• In vivo and ex vivo testing of cardiac function in research animals, such as pressure-volume measurements, echocardiography, telemetric ECG survaillance and cardiac surgery in laboratory animals.
• Cardiac examination of patients, such as ECG, echocardiography, MR, CT, SPECT.
